Foot Injuries
Many sports and fitness activites can lead to foot problems. Some of the more common complaints tend to be:
Tendinitis - Tendinitis is the inflamation of tendons. In the foot, this usually mean inflamation of the Achilles tendon at the heel. The causes of tendinitis are many, including the structure of the foot and the kind of surface the activity was conducted. Stretching is considered a good way to prevent the problem while rest and ice are often considered a useful remedy for the problem.
Heel Spur - Technically known as plantar fascial strain, heel spurs are mainly caused by flat arches. A problem best corrected by an orthotic insert placed in the shoe and thereby lifting the arch.
Shin Splints - This condition is usually related to running on hard surfaces. Shin splints create pain down the front of the lower leg. Stretching, wearing heel lifts in the shoes and proper running technique can prevent this condition. Rest, elevation, and ice can be used to alleviate the pain.
