Vitamins
Vitamins are essential dietary nutrients. They are not made by the human body and must be supplied by diet or supplements. They are needed in very small quantities, as compared to protein and carbs, but are responsible for many essential biological functions ranging from muscle growth, metabolism, and overall good health. In most cases, the modern diet does not meet the daily vitamin intake required for healthy living, and taking a good daily multi-vitamin supplment is usually recommended.
Fat-soluble vitamins are mainly found in oil and fat containing foods. The body stores these vitamins in its fatty tissues, so you don't need to consume them everyday. Overdosage of these vitamins can be toxic.
Water-soluble vitamins are found in a variety of plant and animal foods. Because the body stores them in small amounts and quickly excretes excesses, they are needed to be part of the daily diet.
