Baseball and Softball

They call it America's game for good reason. Slo pitch softball has been one of the fastest growing North American sports over the last decade. There are well over 40 million people participating in baseball/softball/slo-pitch leagues. The game ranks high on skills and sociability, but is at best mediocre on the fitness scale. As a team game, it requires only sporadic physical activity of everyone except for the pitcher.

Baseball and softball though are a lot of fun. They are easy to get access to thanks to the vast infrastructure of ball parks and diamonds. There are also thousands of leagues across the world, catering to players of different age groups and skill level.

Baseball Exercises

Though baseball/softball are not the most cardiovascular sports, they do require explosive power. This is clearly seen in the motions of hitting and throwing. This type of power and strength can be achieved through basic weight training exercises like squats, calf raises, bench press, shoulder/military press, and ab exercises.
