Hockey

The game of hockey (whether played on ice or in a gym) provides you with an excellent combination of cardiovascular, muscular, and endurance properties. The game itself requires good upper body strength to be able to shoot the puck or ball, and handle the contact. Recreational rather than competitive hockey can be categorized as an all round medium to mild exercise. It slightly benefits the heart, endurance, strength, and flexibility.

The skating aspect of hockey puts an added emphasis on the lower body. Like jogging, ice hockey can be an excellent way to workout the legs. The one downside of the game is the inconvinience of facilities and the cost of equipment.

Hockey Exercises

Depending on the position, hockey requires an intricate combination of strength, agility, and endurance to excel. Goalies require a great deal of flexibility to be able to perform at that position. Strength can be attained through weight training exercises like squats, bench and military presses, bicep curls, and tricep extensions. Combined with a good cardiovascular routine, exercise can enable you to be a much better hockey player.
